What to Expect When We Visit Your Library

When a library invites us in, our goal is simple: help staff and leadership build a healthier, more supportive workplace culture. But what does that actually look like? Here’s a general overview of an engagement with us:  Before We Arrive

We begin by listening. Often, libraries choose to start with a climate survey. This helps capture staff perspectives on issues such as communication, trust, and how the library is perceived across campus. These insights give everyone a baseline for the conversations ahead.

We’ll also schedule short virtual check-ins with select staff to refine questions and make sure the site visit reflects your library’s unique needs.

During the Visit

Our time together usually starts with an all-staff session. Here we highlight common workplace challenges in libraries and share inspiring stories of positive transformation. This session sparks dialogue and sets a collaborative tone.

Next, we meet with smaller groups: managers, supervisors, and key staff influencers. These conversations are candid, practical, and tailored to each group’s responsibilities. Importantly, we also meet with staff without senior leaders present — creating a safe space to share honest perspectives.

Finally, we have a debriefing session with library leadership. We summarize what we’ve heard, surface key themes, and begin shaping practical next steps.

After the Visit

Our partnership doesn’t end when we leave. Within 45 days, we provide a written report that captures our findings and offers clear, actionable recommendations. To keep the momentum going, we schedule up to three virtual follow-up meetings. One of these can include all staff, giving everyone the chance to continue the conversation.

Why It Works

This process isn’t a one-size-fits-all program. Every step is customized to your library’s needs, staffing structures, and goals. By combining staff voices, leadership perspectives, and practical recommendations, we create a shared path forward — one that strengthens both the people and the mission of your library.
